After talking to steering it was decided that the LSA-SG website needed to be updated much more often, since in previous years the website never had info about representatives or the correct info for general and committee meetings. Over the summer of 2007 I went through with a redesign of the LSA-SG website. In doing so I decided it would be best to incorporate the LSA-SG website into some sort of Content Management System or blog so that it would easier for me, and for other members of government, to update the site. Once I looked through several options I decided the best course of action would be to make the LSA-SG site a Wordpress blog since it was one of the more popular blogging systems and multiple SG members had used it before. Some of the features on the redesigned website include:
- A blog for LSA-SG steering members to write on.
- Representative/Executive Bios with photos.
- A contact form for constituents to contact LSA-SG.
- An events section which shows an accurate calendar of upcoming events for LSA-SG.
- A separate ‘This Sucks’ blog which allows constituents to send in their complaints via the website.
The new LSA-SG website launched on May 8, 2008. I plan on meeting with the president and vice president of the new administration in the near future to go over any changes that they would like to be made before the end of the semester as well as training them on how to use the website. By doing this I hope that there will be an easier transition into the new administration since I did the vast majority of updates over the past administration. It is also plausible that the new administration will not need to hire anyone for this position since the site should not need anymore technical changes.
